The new horror film The Bride! opened very weakly at the box office, bringing in just $13.6 million during its first weekend against a reported production budget of $90 million, according to Variety.
The picture is a modern remake of the classic horror tale The Bride of Frankenstein. Set in 1930s Chicago, the story follows a monster who asks a scientist to create a companion for him. The scientist revives the corpse of a murdered woman; after returning from death, the woman sets out in search of romance and in the process sparks radical social changes.
The Bride! premiered on March 6, 2026. The lead role is played by Jessie Buckley, with Christian Bale portraying the Frankenstein Monster. The cast also includes Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film was written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Despite the notable cast and the storied source material, the film’s modest opening raises questions about its commercial prospects relative to its sizable production costs. Industry observers are likely to watch its week-to-week hold and international performance closely to assess whether it can recover its budget.
