DDR5 RAM price surge pauses
DDR5 memory price increases stall as buyer demand cools, but kit prices remain far above pre-crisis levels

According to reporting from TechRadar based on PCPartPicker data, the recent upward momentum in DDR5 RAM prices has stopped. After months of sharp increases, the market has shown no further rises in list prices in the most recent tracking period.

Analysts attribute the pause not to a return to normal supply conditions but to weakening buyer demand: many consumers are choosing not to purchase RAM at current price levels. Some specific kits have even fallen slightly in price, though declines are modest and the overall cost of DDR5 remains high. For example, 32 GB kits of DDR5-5600 and DDR5-6000 are being offered in the neighborhood of $800–$900, whereas before the crisis their price was roughly $200.

The strong price escalation began in autumn 2025, driven chiefly by increased procurement from artificial intelligence developers. That wave of demand has tightened the market for memory chips. Earlier reporting also indicated that one major AI developer planned to acquire a substantial share of available DRAM capacity—up to 40% of chips through 2029—further pressuring supply and prices.

In short, while the immediate acceleration in DDR5 prices has paused, the market remains strained and end-user prices are still far above historical norms. Until demand eases substantially or supply expands, consumers should expect DDR5 memory to remain an expensive component in PC builds.
