Counter-Strike 2 code changes suggest developers are testing demo-player features that could enable broader access to the 'Patrol' system

Developers of Counter-Strike 2 appear to be experimenting with the game's demo player in a way that could broaden access to the in-game 'Patrol' system. The observation was reported by a content creator and dataminer using the nickname МОЛЕКУРЯТНИК.

Analysis of the game code revealed two new variables tied directly to events in match demo recordings. These additions point to more markers on the playback slider when viewing demos; at minimum, a damage indicator is likely to be added. The presence of such variables indicates either a general enhancement of the demo player with several new features or specific work aimed at supporting the Patrol functionality for release to a wider audience.

At the moment, the changes look experimental — they may have been introduced so the developers can observe how the new functionality behaves over the coming week. It is not yet clear whether these tests will lead to an imminent public update or remain part of internal development trials.

The Patrol feature itself first appeared in April 2024, but access has been restricted to so-called 'trusted users'. As of this publication, the criteria or process for becoming one of those users remains unknown.
