Counter-Strike analyst Mauisnake says molodoy's struggles under pressure are holding back FURIA Esports at major events

Counter-Strike 2 analyst Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenburg reflected on Danil "molodoy" Golubenko's impact on FURIA Esports, arguing that the sniper's underwhelming performances are preventing the team from converting potential into victories at major tournaments. The caster shared his assessment in a recent commentary segment.

Mauisnake noted that although molodoy was named newcomer of the year, he is currently facing problems: opponents sometimes predict his moves, and he tends to play worse under high-pressure conditions. Those issues have repeatedly knocked FURIA out of contention at key events. Mauisnake singled out molodoy's display against The Mongolz in the quarterfinal of PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 as an example of a particularly disappointing performance. He added that the problems appear to start in playoff stages, and pointed out that molodoy finished with the worst rating in the IEM Krakow 2026 final series, posting a 0.75 rating.

There are, however, several reasons why FURIA reached their current level. Mauisnake praised KSCERATO and Yuurih for generally being in good form despite a lack of tournament wins, called FalleN a competitive captain both in-game and off, and credited YEKINDAR with providing a valuable second voice for the team. He also emphasized that on any given day molodoy has the talent to match the best snipers in the world and even lead the server.

The analyst's main concern is consistency against top opposition under pressure. According to Mauisnake, repeated weak showings in those moments have become a pattern. He described molodoy being the lowest-rated player in the IEM Krakow 2026 final as beneath the player's level and deeply disappointing. On the final map against Team Vitality, molodoy averaged just 38 damage per round, a figure Mauisnake used to illustrate that the AWPer was virtually absent from the contest. While molodoy has only been with FURIA for around nine months and still has time to develop, Mauisnake believes such issues are not fixed overnight and currently do significant damage to the team's prospects. FURIA should have been in a position to challenge Team Vitality or at least compete evenly, but continued poor form from molodoy would make that unlikely.

Danil "molodoy" Golubenko joined FURIA Esports in April 2025. Since then, the roster has claimed several trophies, including IEM Chengdu 2025, BLAST Rivals Fall 2025, Thunderpick World Championship 2025, and FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 — CS, and has placed at numerous other events. Over the 2025 season, the outlet HLTV.org recognized molodoy as the best newcomer of the year.
